~ ‘appy new year ~

Ipod So I managed to create, oooh, about four hours of new year silence in my head before the Voice started. You know the Voice? It's the one that begins as a whisper in your ear and then as soon as you're lulled by its gentle suggestions it knows it has you in its grasp and gets louder and LOUDER until all you can hear and think is what the Voice is telling you – nay, shouting at you. PLANS! PLANS! PLANS! And every single plan must be executed RIGHT NOW OR ELSE YOU WILL DIE!

Santa gifted me with an iPod Touch, so while surfing this burst of creativity i've been camped out in the app store, searching for ways to make my day run smoother. So far I'm loving:

For their usefulness:Simplenote (this is my favourite – it syncs up with my Mac and you can add it to your dashboard), Things, Mindnode (the genius who created this deserves a medal), Keeper.

To keep me connected: Tweetie 2, Flickr and Facebook

For brain exercise: The Guardian, Gratitude Journal & Visionboard (created by the marvellous Carla White), McSweeney's, TED

For procrastination: Solitaire, Ragdoll Blaster, Bloom (amazing!), Pollock, Koi Pond and WhiteNoise (Brown Noise has been helping me relax this week).

Alas the Touch doesn't have a camera, otherwise I'd be all over the photo apps that are out there. What apps are you loving right now? Do you have any recommendations you could share?

I like to keep my iTouch simple so I don’t get overly distracted…not too many apps but chalk full of music, audiobooks, Kindle books, podcasts and my hands down favorites: Pandora Radio and Google Reader.

  5. Some apps that I’ve found very useful although my have overlap with some of your apps in terms of purpose and functionality:
    - Evernote (everyone needs this!)
    - MobileRSS – to keep current with my googlereader so that I can see posts from you and other bloggers alike
    - TapWord – if you love Boggle, you’ll love this
    - Words With Friends – playing scrabble with my friends or even starting up games with random people. so fun!
    - Wikipanion – it’s nice to have wikipedia at my finger tips ;)
    - Yelp – when I need quick restaurant or coffee shop suggestions when in a neighborhood I’m not familiar with

  6. My everyday apps are some you mentioned (gratitude journal, things) but I love Evernote – I use it to store bit of inspiration and also ideas, snippets of code, etc.
The Amazon app is a must for me too – I use the amazon remebers function all the time (snap a photo of something and it finds it for you – not just books and music – everything!)
For games – geek that I am – I love Font Game.
I also use Bylines to sync with google reader to read blogs on the go.
    ‘appy new year!

  14. I have to also recommend Evernote… it syncs on the iPhone, on your desktop, and on the web app as well. I keep EVERYTHING in there… recipes, grocery lists, style ideas, photos of wine labels, to-do lists… I love it! :)

  18. I do know that voice. I believe Anne Lamott refers to it in her book Bird by Bird as Radio Station KFKD. It turns on in my head about 5 minutes after I wake up each morning, and then I spend a large part of the day trying to turn it off, or at least turn down the volume, so I can hear the other nicer voice of possibility. I hope the new technology will be a good help!
