Why the Crone and why now?
With our limited vocabulary for older women, the Crone archetype feels potent, powerful and so needed at this time in our collective evolution.
In stories she’s the wild-haired woman living in the forest with her animals and potions and refusal to conform. She's revered by the villagers and sought out for help yet she's also feared because Crones aren't afraid to speak the truth.
My own Crone made herself known when I entered my 50s. As perimenopause burned through my body I could feel my future self reaching her hand back in solidarity, reassuring me I'd survive this transformational time.
When I felt lost I'd ask what my Crone self would do, and just as I comfort and play with my inner child, Susie, my Crone self did the same for me. I could tangibly feel her guidance and calm steady presence on the days that felt extra hard.
As I began exploring ways to connect to her wisdom, the seed for this course was planted...
The tarot lover in me was inspired to make a set of altar cards embodying the voice of my inner Crone and as the collages came together, seemingly guided by other hands, I knew this was an experience to be shared in community.
You won't be surprised to learn that creativity channels Crone energy. Imagery in particular bypasses the need for the "right" words and taps into something far more primal.
Crone energy is fierce & protective.
The world needs our Crone wisdom.
WE need our Crone wisdom
We probably won't end up living in a forest but we can channel the ENERGY of the Crone and bring her - OUR - wisdom into our every day lives now, exactly when we need it most.
Because the wisdom lives inside us.
It always has done.

How it works
In this brand new course we'll be making a set of very personal altar cards inspired by and channeled through our Inner Crone.
Once created you’ll be able to to use them as a tangible and very practical way to anchor into your inner Crone’s energy and wisdom, through meditation, journaling, having them displayed in your home or on your desk. You could even get them printed as a deck of oracle cards (I definitely plan to!).
In short, we’re making an empowering tool to support us during the months & years ahead!
And because I KNOW how hard it can be to find the time for soul work like this I've created Crone Cards to be a cosy course-workshop hybrid!
At the heart of the course are THREE 2+ hour workshops where we'll make our altar cards together in June, August and October (Halloween vibes!).
No special artistic skills are necessary to make your cards. We're going on instinct and intuition and letting our Crones take the lead (just the way they like it!)
I'll be making cards right along side you and will guide & inspire you every step of the way.
THREE WORKSHOPS BECAUSE...
This is the year for soulful time in community and the joy of things to look forward to
Before our first workshop you'll get access to preparatory course materials and resources - including both paper and digital options - to help you gather materials for your cards.
We'll begin each workshop by connecting to our inner Crone in a guided meditation then spend the first part working on our collages (paper or digital, your choice).
In the second part we'll bring through the voice of our Crone and create a highly personal set of interpretations for each card. My own Crone has given me some wonderful prompts to facilitate deep connection in our crone journals.
We'll create 6 cards in each workshop and I'll provide prompts & guidance for extra cards to be created in-between the workshops.
Our goal is a minimum of 18 altar cards completed by Halloween, though you'll likely end up with more — creating Crone Cards is addictive! 🎃
Each set of cards explores an aspect of the crone
Each workshop takes us deeper into her lifetime of experience
Until we reach the end, fully embodied in her power.

I'm Susannah
I’m a writer & teacher and I spend my days helping people access their creative joy and nurture a deeper kinder relationship with themselves.
Walking through the fire of bereavement in my early 30s is how I came to truly inhabit every part of who I am, the shadows as well as the light. In 2006 I started writing a blog and found my beloved creative community. My first book, This I Know: Notes on Unraveling the Heart, was published internationally in 2012 and for the last 16 years I’ve been teaching creative courses online, sharing the tools and practices that transformed my life.
Now I'm here at 52, post menopause and ready to begin the slow sacred walk into the forest 🌳
